In November 2022 my friend from art college and I curated a group show of work at Stamford arts Centre. Avis Underwood is a friend of mine from art college, we studied graphic illustration & photography together, I went on to do my HND & she went onto the Royal College of Art. She was shortlisted for the Saatchi New Sensations in 2010 and has work in the Royal College Collection. Her painting is something I was lucky enough to witness progress. I remember going clubbing with her, and crashing on her bedroom floor, my sleeping bag surrounded by tubes of oil paint.
The exhibition was a selection of paintings, photography and prints, which caused quite a stir at the time, one person said “this actually looks like an art exhibition!”
Thankfully there were no bunnies, or hares, or foxes; just art.
We decided to call the exhibition “Pergola” as when Avis typed “perhaps” into her phone, predictive text would replace it with “Pergola”. It seemed like a nice word for an exhibition as art does support and shelter you in life, and I guess that is what a Pergola does.
We have a limited edition run of two Avis Underwood pastel sketches for sale, which can be found in the portfolio section of this website.
Some of the images from the exhibition are below.
