T-shirt design is a tricky one to sell in volume. The design needs to have a hook, which resonates in trend terms, whilst also being enduring enough to not end up on Vinted too quickly.
Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust recently commissioned me to create a brand identity for the Rutland Osprey. It was to be used on t-shirts and water bottles.
The Osprey migrates to Rutland Water Nature Reserve, once a year, to breed & raise its chicks. It barely touches land on this incredible voyage, returning back to Africa every Autumn.
After a lot of drawing, an ipad illustration of the bird in flight was chosen as the main motif for the designs. The typography for the brand identity was designed to look a bit prog rock. Whilst also having a directional edge, to reflect the Osprey’s epic annual migratory route.
The placement prints have been printed on organic t-shirts, mugs, water bottles and used to develop packaging for locally made soaps and candles.
The t-shirts are available from the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust website
